A Sweet Surprise

A sweet Surprise from Sabrina's Sweets in Exeter, NH.A holiday tradition among some RiverWoods employees is that instead of giving gifts to each other, the team contributes their own funds to purchase gifts for local families, and recipients are chosen through several fellow nonprofits including Seacoast Family Promise and Child and Family Services of NH. This year, a recipient “paid it forward” by bringing homemade cupcakes to the RiverWoods office – an unexpected treat. Thank you, Sabrina for an inspiring and delicious gesture! Very yummy indeed! We wish her best of luck with her new business called Sabrina's Sweets! For more information on Sabrina's Sweets, you can visit Sabrina's Sweets on Facebook for contact info and more.

RiverWoods Employee Appreciation Day

2014 RiverWoods at Exeter Employee Appreciation CelebrationThe annual RiverWoods employee appreciation celebration is a chance for RiverWoods residents to say thank you to all of the warm hearted, hardworking people who work at RiverWoods. Aside from the opportunity for residents and staff to mix and mingle, one of the highlights is the seemingly endless spread of homemade cookies made with love (and some highly coveted top-secret recipes!) by the residents of RiverWoods. The tradition speaks to the powerful bond that exists between RiverWoods residents and staff.

This year, RiverWoods resident Bob Jones wrote the following poem to mark the occasion...

Celebrating 10 Years at The Ridge

Marking a major milestone during our 20th Anniversary Year

Blog and Photos by Bob Jones, RiverWoods at Exeter resident since 2010Celebrating 10 years at The Ridge campus - RiverWoods at Exeter, NH CCRC

Twenty years ago this year, RiverWoods opened its first campus, The Woods. Now, as we celebrate our 20th Anniversary campus-wide, The Ridge campus also marks a milestone. Ten years after opening The Woods campus in 1994, The Ridge opened its doors in 2004 and residents recently gathered to mark the occasion. It was quite an affair. The decorations were outstanding, and all of the Ridge folks were dressed to the nines to celebrate. The social atmosphere was a delight. There were a number of men with ties who admitted they had not worn a tie in five years. But the women outdid them by far. They were dressed in their finest, and clearly added a festive atmosphere to the gathering.

The group was introduced by RiverWoods Charlie Kellsey who is the current Chair of the Board of Trustees of Kurn Hattin Homes. Lisa told the story of how she was chosen as one of 25 semifinalists and ultimately 10 finalists from across the U.S. for the first-ever Music Educator Award presented by the Grammy Foundation® and the Recording Academy®. In total, more than 30,000 initial nominations were submitted from all 50 states.

Once again, the Kurn Hattin Select Choir and Jazz Band was being videotaped for their entry this year in Western New England public television member station WGBY’s “Together in Song” choral competition. They were selected as one of the outstanding groups last year.

The music program the group presented is listed below. One of the highlights of this year's concert was the participation of Bruce Mast, Chair of the RiverWoods Board of Trustees who sang the round Dona Nobis Pacem along with the Kurn Hattin chorus. We certainly have a multi-talented board of trustees, and were all blown away with Bruce's wonderful voice.

What an incredible night! Thank you! Click to view 2014 RiverWoods Gala photo album

More than 400 people attended the recent RiverWoods Gala Auction "Help Today, Hope for Tomorrow" to benefit Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, Exeter (SVdP). The final total is still being tallied, but it appears the RiverWoods Gala raised more than $100,000 for SVdP and the families they serve!

The biennial event punctuates a two-year fundraising and partnership with SVdP, an all-volunteer non-profit that helps people in the Exeter area with a variety of issues, from food and housing to job seeking and child care. As in previous years, RiverWoods residents and staff donated hundreds of hours of time during the two year partnership, all culminating in the recent gala.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this gala a success, especially our generous sponsors, including LECESSE , Exeter Area New Car Dealers, Donahue, Tucker and Ciandella, PLLC , Hinckley Allen , Greystone , People's United Bank and CliftonLarsonAllen!
